Catechins : The wonder element
Scientists from Japan Cancer Institute have been successful in identifying substances in Green Tea called Catechins or Polyphenols, which act as strong antioxidants among others. They are in a position to clinically establish the old adage that "tea is a miraculous medicine for the maintenance of health."

Catechins remain unchanged in Green Tea as leaves are merely cut, dried and steamed as opposed to black tea which is fermented. This process also ensures that there remains no tannin in Green Tea - a substance that interferes with the absorption of calcium, iron and protein by the body. Green Tea has also been proved to be very low on caffeine - about one third of that in a cup of coffee.


Catechins : The Elixir of Life
Lipid Peroxide, which is known to trigger such diseases like cancer, cardiovascular ailments and diabetes, is more easily generated as the age advances. It also creates Lipofuscin, which is better known as the ageing index.

Researchers have shown that consumption of Green Tea may lead to the prevention of heart disease by strengthening blood vessels and decreasing the cholesterol level in the blood.
Demographical research in Japan has established that areas where Green Tea is produced and drunk show a remarkable low death rate caused by cancer in general and gastrointestinal disorders, such as cancer in stomach, oesophagus and liver in particular. The use of catechins has been clinically proved to have strong preventive and controlling influence on cancer.
The property of Catechins to restrict the excessive buildup of harmful Cholesterol (LDL and VLDL cholesterol) in the blood, while leaving the necessary HDL Cholesterol unaffected, is being widely acclaimed.
Japanese research has also been successful in establishing that Green Tea catechins impede the action of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) and suppress the production of Angiotensis II, which causes high blood pressure.

Two cups of tea have anti-oxidant properties equivalent to 3-4 cups of orange juice or 20 glasses of apple juice. This makes tea effective in reducing the risk of cancer, heart diseases, stroke and arthritis.
Preparation : 5 gms of green tea should be put in 250 ml water and boiled till the water becomes 1/3. The tea should then be filtered and without mixing with milk or sugar it can be consumed.

General Dosage : Once a day 20 minutes before breakfast or 20 minutes before supper.

Special Dosage : Twice a day 20 minutes before breakfast and 20 minutes before supper.
